Launch of BAT COM ECO project to develop more sustainable batteries and high-voltage Li-ion.
Ten industry organizations and research have joined in the project funded by the EU ECO COM BAT ecological Composites for Li-ion batteries high efficiency, coordinated by the Fraunhofer Project Group Material recycling and resource strategies, part of the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC, develop high voltage of the next generation of Li-ion batteries.
Better performance is not the only objective of the new battery over conventional batteries, the new type should be more sustainable in terms of the materials used The main task here is the substitution of conventional materials, often expensive, rare or critical.
The objective of the new type of high-voltage battery to extend the range of electric vehicles, to reduce the charging time, to reduce the weight of the battery, to improve stability and durability, and above all, to replace critical raw materials or precious commonly used in conventional lithium-ion batteries.
cobalt oxide low NMC lithium manganese cobalt nickel serves as electrode active material It provides the required energy density, but which contains about 20 to less cobalt than conventional solutions of carbon nanotubes and the porous carbon used as conductive additives .
The carbon material to improve the electrical conductivity of the electrodes and allow the energy densities of a high voltage special electrolyte based on the conducting salt of lithium bis-fluorosulfonyl imide LiFSI used electrolyte which may be the same stably operated a high voltage hybrid ion-conductive polymer coating protects the electrolyte material and ensures a safe and reliable battery use and a long service life.
The first task of the team BAT ECO COM will upscaling of processes necessary for large-scale production of new battery materials The next step will be upscaling the actual production of the pilot cell close to the scale industry and then to scale production the challenge is to meet the requirements of the automotive standard with energy and cost-effective production methods.
A more widespread use of electric vehicles will always mean more battery scrap To avoid problematic waste and also to recover valuable materials such as graphite, cobalt and lithium, new strategies must be developed to ensure effective recycling This starts with design for recycling that recovers materials contained in the extent possible this purpose, the researchers will also test innovative recycling processes.
Innovative high voltage battery materials will be provided by the industrial partners Arkema and Umicore The Fraunhofer ISC is in charge of the protective coating required Arkema and Fraunhofer ISC will work together on upscaling of materials on a pilot scale.
The electrodes and cells will be manufactured by the Atomic Energy Commission and alternative energy French energy CEA, the German manufacturer of custom cell Itzehoe and the Fraunhofer R t find anything because the ownership of resulting patents lead to a financial battle between for all these partners the way anyone know what is going to AutoblogGreen, the site doesn t work anymore since a week.
Gorr, you seem to project your own social cooperatives and shortcomings of a group who have worked together for decades AutoblogGreen works fine.
