Last 3rd generation Camaro
I had the privilege to work on or with the Chevrolet Camaro for many years a teenager growing up in a family plot, I clearly remember our dealer get its first Camaro comes before the public announcement that day was September 10, 1966 and I thought that the Camaro was the most beautiful car I'd ever seen and it's been my passion for over 40 years.
For many years, I worked at Chevrolet still driving a Camaro if possible - and I was fortunate to be selected from a pool of over 400 people working on the Corvette Camaro performance car team in the 1990s.
It was a bittersweet time as we build the best Camaros in quality of taste that has ever been built, however, the performance management of fuel economy in America changed in transit, the Camaro and even the all the sports coupe market went into decline as the choice of switched peoples Sport Utilities and sedan more convenient, it was particularly painful to hear at the end of 1996 that the Camaro would not, in all likelihood, be built after 1998, we had the chance to keep the Camaro and his cousin, the Pontiac Firebird on the market place through the 2002 model year.
Much speculation, finger-pointing, and blame was placed and assigned to why they went out of production That said, there are many reasons why these very special nameplates were highlighted but I submit there were many other reasons completely foreign to those who are not intimately involved in the auto industry just say that many people lovers in the public domain, and many of us in the GM family were devastated during the production of the fourth generation of cars ended in August 2002.
As I write this preface in the last days of 2007, we have much to celebrate as the Camaro is back.
What you will read is, primarily, a brochure that I had produced and was included in a special 35th anniversary Camaro owner Portfolio The portfolio came with each of the 3369 Camaro 35th limited edition Camaro SS s It allowed our Camaro fans a glimpse of some of the small pieces of the Camaro history.

Fads come and go to other things Saturday night classic sound of rock roll, and a tour of thrill called CAMARO CHEVROLET - just get better.
It's been over 40 years since the first Camaro roared to life, climbing the Chevrolet-Ford classic rivalry to the fans no fever have always enjoyed it.
From the beginning with his dramatic style, 350 V8 and a choice of coupe or convertible Camaro was the closest one yet Vette terms like SS, Z28 and Rallye Sport meant something VERY COOL CHEVROLET.
With changing times and changing rules, Camaro was never compromised Camaro has always meant a V8, rear-drive muscle car with DNA that dates directly in the fall of 1966 Who would have imagine what would follow a style that has always been nothing short of a performance art form that has always prevailed over the competition and future well based on the new Camaro exciting concept, it seems ACTUALLY bright.
Thank you Tony for a great overview of what makes special Camaro.
Although similar in size and style, Camaro unlike its main competitors, the Ford Mustang by offering a sub-frame attached to a unitized body for better road and noise isolation and improved ride quality it was a myriad of options and trim levels of style trim group at the Sport Rally; the final Super Sport in a special edition Z28 was developed as a competitor to the Trans-Am racing series because the series had a maximum displacement of 305 cubic inches, a special Chevrolet small block V8 displacing 302 cubic inches was the engine powering the Z28 Camaro 1967 offered buyers a choice of seven engines of 230 cubic inches to line 6 to a big block 396 cubic inch V8 also several dealers like Yenko and Berger, installed the 427 engine cubic inches for the ultimate terms of muscle and performance Camaro paced 1967 Indianapolis 500 this distinctive pace car was painted ermine and featured an interior light blue measure ItS strip of blue bumble around the nose ended look around 140 aftershocks have been produced making this car a rate of over collection - producing the most valuable Camaros for model year 1967 totaled 22090 6.
The 68 Camaro retains an appearance similar to the 67; but there were some subtle differences ventilation windows have disappeared with the advent of the light signals of lateral ventilation Astro were added because of government regulation The first fabric production versions were offered - the fabric of the hounds tooth now famous debuted a revised grille and taillights have a distinctive Camaro from the model 67 Camaro SS had two distinctive covers available, one for the engine 350, the other with the 396 engine a total of 235.147 Camaros have was built in the year 68 of the model.
Camaro received a make-over for 1969 with a new sheet metal that gave the car a much weaker position, broader - hence the name Hugger Production began September 26, 1968 and ended on February 26, 1970 - effectively making certain the next Camaro 1970-1 2 list of options has increased and the color pallet halo vinyl roof was an option that gave the Camaro him a distinctive look that is unique for a second time, Camaro paced the Indianapolis 500 - a white convertible with hounds Dover orange upholstery teeth and the now famous Hugger orange stripes makes this car pace memorable for years to come about 3675 aftershocks have produced a grand total of 243.085 1969 Camaros were built.
The second generation Camaro was introduced to the public in spring 1970 - with a slightly revised corvette Although it shares the concept of semi-monocoque body with the first-generation car, almost all parties was again The new body has influenced European final frontal treatment differed depending on whether or not the Rally Sport package was commissioned Because SCCA Trans-Am rules have changed and allowed destroking larger engines, the new Camaro Z-28 came with a 350ci engine developing 360 horsepower Camaro SS ultimate offered a 396ci engine with 375hp convertible option was dropped for the second generation due to model year runs only 124901 1970 Camaros were produced.
While the 71 was considered a postponement because of a short construction 1970 February 1, there were differences - of exterior colors and interior trim wheel A new feature seat design high back bucket Horsepower ratings have changed 1971 - from gross to net - and with lower compression rates coincidence, it appeared the power loss was greater than it was actually production decreased to 114.630 units - mainly due to a long strike General Motors in the fall of 1970.
Grids on non-Rallye Sport models has given a new look with a larger mesh vinyl roof now covers had a wet 1972 Camaros effect were the last Camaros to offer engines big block and, in fact, only 930 were produced with the large block would be the last year for the SS until SLP engineering and Chevrolet introduced a new Camaro SS in the production of the year 1996 model Camaro was reduced to 68,651 due to a 120-day strike at the assembly plant Norwood, Ohio When the strike was over and this is shocking - almost 1100 partially assembled 1972 models were scrapped because they could not be brought into compliance with the 1973 requirements bumper.

A new wraparound rear window better view to the rear of the 75 Camaro While a consumer could order a Z28, there was a 1975 Z28 built - however, it was used in the GM corporate fleet and was never sold - rather, it is believed that the vehicle has been scrapped the door locks has become an option as cruise control Rally Sport appearance package became available at the end of the model year, but was, frankly, paint and tape package, rather than a separate before final processing or total sports haven 75 year production model headlights came to 145,770.
Styling for model year 1976 was approximately postponement A shiny aluminum front panel was added to capture the LT between the taillights replace dual Leatherette moldings replaced woodgrain on dashboard The roof cover vinyl option had a new look pram in that the lid is stopped short of the rear window, leaving a painted stripe between the top vinyl and rear window for the first time in Camaro history, no packet striping was available, although many Chevrolet dealers would paint them on you for an additional total of 182.959 units were produced this year's model.
