Now with a new breed of racers sports car-based developed by his McLaren GT division, McLaren is considering the competition once again in the 24 Hours of Le Mans The British automaker is not looking to compete with the likes Audi, Porsche and Toyota LMP1 category first but the Pro GTE where people of Aston Martin, Chevrolet, Ferrari and Porsche all road car-based racers in the field and the McLaren car wants to use is the last 650S GT3.
I would be very surprised if you do not see a 650S race at Le Mans at some point and we hope to be there from 2016, McLaren GT boss Andrew Kirkaldy told Autosport that's what we want to do, but we still need a set of regulations to build the car.
The organizers of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the World Endurance Championship as the French race is part of, are seeking to update the regulations for the GTE in 2016, if McLaren is still committed to developing a new GTE- However spec 650S, 650S GT3 is the latest close to matching the current specifications GTE, so that the full transition should be possible.
McLaren could compete with a full factory team cars or as provider for private teams.
